DESCRIPTION

Our adventure begins in BOGOTÁ, the Colombian Capital, accompanied by a fun and charismatic tour guide.  Our MOMENTS will be so UNIQUE and MEMORABLE that we will feel like true ‘ Amazonians ‘.

We will fly to LETICIA to arrive at its pier in the Amazon River and travel upriver to reach the MARASHA Nature Reserve in Peru, from where we will see the spectacular panoramic view of the 3 borders: COLOMBIA, PERU, and BRAZIL.

We will do bird watching and canoe riding on the Marasha Lake. We will paddle in canoes in the night to observe the natural fauna, among them, alligators. We will visit the Ticuna and Mocawa communities to walk around their houses and crops.  We will hike through Maikuchiga to finally get to ‘ the House of the Monkeys ‘.  When enjoying the jungle landscapes, we will identify species used in ethnobotany.

We will visit the Community of San Martín de Amacayacu; we will walk in the night through the continental jungle, on the Moon Trail, looking for the luminescent mushrooms in the dark.  We will continue hiking to find the Victoria Regia, the world’s largest lotus flower.  We will visit the Natutama Foundation and walk through a medicinal path to recognize the ‘ Chagra ‘, a unit of medicinal fruit and plant cultivation.

Attending to workshops on vegetable fabrics and natural inks and artisan galleries will be other of our unique experiences as well as dancing with the grandparents with songs in their mother tongue.  We will enjoy the scenic tour along the Loretoyacú River and the Tarapoto Lakes, where we will see the gray and pink dolphins.

We will finalize this experience by touring LETICIA´s places of interest as well as enjoying a City Tour by taxi in Tabatinga, Brazil.  We will return to Bogotá to put an end to this true Adventure of the Amazonian Lung.

DAY 1. ORIGIN – BOGOTÁ (Welcome)

STAGE: Bogotá
Transfer In – Out.

DAY 2: IN THE CAPITAL – (City Tour Day)

STAGE: Bogotá
ACTIVITIES:

  • Breakfast at the hotel, meeting in the lobby with the guide.
  • Departure for the city tour until noon.
  • Lunch free afternoon, Dinner and lodging.

DAY 3: LETICIA – COMMUNITY INDIGENOUS WITOTO

STAGE: Community Indigenous Witoto
ACTIVITIES:

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Free morning in Bogotá.
  • At noon, transfer to El Dorado Airport to take a short domestic flight (approx. 1h45) to Leticia, arriving at The Alfredo Vázquez Cobo Airport.
  • Meeting with the guide for the reception and departure of the excursion in private vehicle to the Witoto Community (7Km).
  • Upon arrival to the community, the tour guide will give directions and guidance at the starting point.
  • We will begin our adventure with a hike through indigenous trails between the jungle of ‘Tierra Firme ‘, observing the fauna and flora of the area.
  • During the tour, we will know some species of ethnobotany use.
  • We will visit indigenous Witoto´ traditional crops, where we will learn about crop species such as coca, plantains and yucca brava (toxic cassava).
  • After this pleasant and interesting experience, we will arrive at the Shaman William Malocas.
  • Recognition of plant species such as Yage, Coca, And Tobacco, and the form of extraction, preparation in the Witoto culture.
  • Then, Shaman William we give us an lecture about the Witoto culture on topics like “The Maloca as a household and cultural space”, “Coca as the power of the word”, “Yage as the power and the shamanic force”.
  • Departure to the Tanimboca Natural Reserve to have dinner there.
  • Night walk into the Jungle on ‘ Tierra Firme ‘, sighting of nocturnal fauna and Luminescent Mushrooms in The Dark “Walking through The Moon Way” and “The Infinite Sounds of The Jungle at Night”.
  • Loading in tree cabins.

DAY 4: TICUNA INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY OF SAN PEDRO – LOTUS FLOWER NATURAL RESERVE

STAGE: Lotus Flower Nature Reserve
ACTIVITIES:

  • Breakfast at 7:00 a.m.
  • Departure to the Community of San Pedro and Lotus Flower Reserve.
  • Jungle Trekking: In the morning we will go on an excursion into the Jungle on ‘Tierra Firme ‘; during our journey, we will recognize species of ethnobotany use, knowing the dynamics of the jungle.
  • We will cross the Leticia way, to Tarapacá, to continue our journey through the jungle to the Ticuna indigenous community of San Pedro.
  • Fauna sighting on ‘Tierra Firme ‘. (3hrs approx. walk).
  • We will know about the Ticuna´s activities, the products derived from their crops, we will do a brief cultural exchange with the inhabitants of the community.
  • We will sail, slow motor, in artisanal boats of the natives by aquatic trails of the Waterfall Yahuarcaca with destination to the Lotus Flower Reserve in the lakes of Yahuarcaca.
  • Check-in and lunch in the lotus Flower Natural Reserve.
  • After a rest in hammocks, we will do canoeing activity and interpretation of landscapes of the flooded jungle.
  • Bathing activity in the lakes of Yahuarcaca.
  • Return to the Lotus Flower Reserve and Dinner.
  • Departure by craft boat for nocturnal fauna sighting.
  • Lodging in cabins with beds and mosquito nets.

DAY 5: MARASHA NATURAL RESERVE (PERU) – FLOODED FOREST TRAILS
STAGE: Peru
ACTIVITIES:

  • Breakfast at 8:00 a.m.
  • In the morning, we will carry out optional activities of fishing, canoeing, or body art with a temporary natural dye.
  • Lunch at the Lotus Flower Reserve.
  • Departure by speedboat we sail the Amazon River upstream to the Marasha Natural Reserve community.
  • During the tour on the imposing river (30mins), we will appreciate the Amazon rainforest and the riverside villages of indigenous and settlers like Tabatinga –Brazil- and Santa Rosa-Perú.
  • Arrival to the Reserve.
  • Hike through natural trails of rainforest landscapes (2h30) bound for the Reserve.
  • During our tour, we will recognize the Flora and Fauna species of the Varzea Forest of the banks of the Amazon River.
  • Reception, lodging and Dinner.
  • Canoeing night out on Lake Marasha for alligator’s observation.

DAY 6: MARASHA LAKES – NIGHT SAFARI
STAGE: Lagos De Marasha
ACTIVITIES:
Optional: Wake up at 5:00 am. For birdwatching in Canoe Tour on the Marasha Lake.

  • Breakfast at 7:30 am.
  • We will hike through jungle trails. Fauna and flora sighting of the floodable forest area; during the tour we will recognize species of ethnobotany use, knowing the dynamics of this ecosystem.
  • Encounter with the Grandfather Tree, imposing Ceiba tree of more than 400 years.
  • Canopy activity, climbing to tall trees with high mountain equipment. Instruction on the cup of the trees of the ‘Tierra Firme’.
  • Lunch at the Reserve, enjoying Peruvian-Amazonic gastronomy.
  • Artisanal fishing activity, capture of piranhas and other species.
  • We will take a Kayak tour or traditional canoes; this is a fascinating view of natural landscapes that forms the lake Marasha.
  • We will observe the Hoazín, primitive bird species that inhabit the shores of the lake.
  • Dinner at the Reserve.
  • We will hike for nocturnal wildlife observation. (Night Safari/”Alligators”).
  • Lodging.

DAY 7: COMMUNITY OF MOCAWA – FOUNDATION MAIKUCHIGA – THE HOUSE OF THE MONKEYS
STAGE: Foundation Maikuchiga
ACTIVITIES:

  • Breakfast at 7:00 a.m.
  • Aquatic Trail to the Amazon River, a spectacular water landscape covered with lake vegetation.
  • Departure by speedboat, we sail the Amazon River upstream to the community of Mocagua. (Ticuna indigenous reserve, residents of the Amacayacu National Natural Park).
  • During our tour, we have a spectacular panoramic view of the imposing Amazon River; we appreciate the Amazon rainforest and the villages of Ticunas and Yaguas indigenous people (Peru and Colombia).
  • Arrival to the community of Mocagua, welcome by the residents of the community.
  • On our visit to the community, we will take a tour around the Malocas and crops; we will visit the lake of the community and appreciate the Victory Regia, the world’s largest lotus.
  • Then, we will begin the hike along the Maikuchiga path to the House of the Monkeys (Path of Jungle of Solid and Flooded Land).
  • Recognizing jungle scenarios, species of ethnobotany use and wildlife observation.
  • Instruction and identification of New World Primate Species, distribution and ecology.
  • Arrival at the Maikuchiga Casa de los Micos, contact and interaction with some of the species of monkeys in recovery, such as White Mouth (BoquiBlancos), Churucos, Friars, Maiceros or Capuchins, species that are part of the first stage of re-adaptation to the natural environment.
  • Talk about the process of recovering the monkeys, behavior, ecological function, stages for the repayment to the natural environment, participation of the community of Mocagua, benefits for the community.
  • Return to the community (the visit to the House of the monkeys Maikuchiga during the high water season is only possible in canoes).
  • Lunch in the community of Mocagua.
  • Departure to Puerto Nariño (approximately 2:00 hours).
  • Arrival to Puerto Nariño accommodation in La Hacienda Eware.
  • Visit to Puerto Nariño the natural manger of Colombia, tour of the town.
  • Visit to the Natutama Foundation, talk about dolphins and other Amazonian mammals.
  • Visit to viewpoint Naipata where we will have a spectacular panoramic view of Puerto Nariño and the Amazon River.
  • Departure to the lakes of Tarapoto.
  • Visit and Bath in the lakes of Tarapoto.
  • Observation of pink and grey dolphins from the Amazon.

DAY 8: PUERTO NARIÑO- MEDICINAL TRAILS OF ETHNOBOTANICAL
STAGE: Puerto Nariño
ACTIVITIES:

  • Breakfast 8:00am.
  • Departure to Puerto Nariño.
  • Bonfire activity with dances and songs in mother tongue.
  • Painting workshop in Chanchama with natural dye and Ticuna culture stories.
  • Tour along the path of medicinal plants, recognition of botanical species used in traditional medicine.
  • Archery and blowgun activity.
  • Lunch at Las Margaritas restaurant.
  • Departure by speedboat with destination to Leticia.
  • Arrival to Leticia.
  • Hike through Leticia; visit the Ethnographic Museum of the Amazonian man in the library of the Bank of the Republic, the artisan galleries and the naturist house.
  • Visit to Santander Park “Loros Park” to observe the arrival of the thousands of white-winged parrots who spend the night in Leticia.
  • Accommodation at the hotel Waira Suites.

DAY 9: LETICIA-BOGOTÁ
STAGE: Bogotá
ACTIVITIES:

  • Breakfast 8:00am.
  • Arrival to Leticia, City tour Leticia and Tabatinga by Taxi (2 hours aprox.)
  • Visit the market of Leticia, the border of Tabatinga Brasil and Leticia Colombia, the market of Tabatinga the commercial area, the viewpoint Comara.
  • Transfer to the airport one hour before the flight.
  • Transfer to El Dorado Airport – Hotel and check-in.
  • Dinner and Lodging.

DAY 10: BOGOTÁ
STAGE: End
ACTIVITIES:
Breakfast at the hotel, transfer at the agreed time to El Dorado Airport from the hotel for your international flight and happy return home.
