Duration: 5 hours.
We will visit the town of Silvia, located 1 hour and a half north of Popayán, where the headquarter of the Indigenous Reservation of the Guambiano-Misak community that inhabits the surrounding villages is located. These are the children of the indigenous communities that originally inhabited this region and still preserve some of their ancestral heritages.
In the central square we will meet our local hostess who, after a short visit to the town, telling us a little about the customs and history of her community, will accompany us to the Sierra Morena path. There we will visit the Casa Payán, an interpretation center of the
Misak culture self-managed by the community, as well as its garden of medicinal plants. Then we continue to their pharmacy where naturopathic medicines produced by themselves are issued and given out to patients, in the same way as the it is done in the model approved by the Colombian social security, in which the traditional doctor prescribes to patients who later go there to claim their formula.
With our visit, in addition to learning about the life and history of this Colombian indigenous community, as well as the beautiful landscape of the natural environment where they live, we are helping to generate an additional income that directly supports their survival and the dissemination of their cultural heritage.
