SOUTHWEST- TOUR IN THE SURROUNDING OF POPAYAN: CULTURE, HISTORY, AND GASTRONOMY.

Duration: 6 hours. Today we are invited to get to know a bit of the rural life in the surroundings of Popayán. We will first leave for Cajete, the “green path” of the city where we will visit an organic coffee farm because, what better way is there to start the day than with a good cup of freshly brewed coffee? We will be able to visit the crops, collect some grains (don't miss out on tasting their pulp!), See the “benefit” process, the roasting and then, of course, have a good cup of black coffee. Our next stop is at a farm that produces carantanta, the emblematic Payanese chip made with white corn that goes well with everything. Here we can also try the famous pipián empanaditas, so small, crunchy and delicious that we will not be able to eat just one. If we have already been in the city for a few days, we will surely have already tried one of the two or both, if not, we will be presented with some firm candidates to become our favorite snack. After eating, we will visit two interesting pieces of architecture. We will pass by the Hacienda Calibío, a beautiful colonial hacienda built at the end of the 18th century famous for being the place where Antonio Nariño defeated the Spanish Viceroy Juan Sámano and also for having served as an inn on some occasion for Simón Bolívar. To end the tour, we will visit a National Monument that remains standing after resisting eight major earthquakes: the doctrinal chapel of the Yanacona Indians built in 1560, almost as old as the city itself and an important setting for the stories of the colony and the evangelizing mission of the conquerors
