BOGOTÁ- NATIONAL NATURAL PARK CHINGAZA

High in the mountains and amongst the clouds The Chingaza Natural National Park holds one of the biggest and most diverse Páramos in the world with countless sources of fresh water, a dramatic geography, and many different unique species of flora and fauna. Making this a sublime spectacle not to be missed.

The Páramo ecosystem is only found in the American continent. Actually, only seven countries in the world have this privilege: Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panamá, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and most noticeably Colombia that has 50% of all the Páramos in the world. Chingaza is one of the biggest protected areas that holds this ecosystem and its importance is paramount because is the main source of drinking water for the cosmopolitan city of Bogotá.

Depending on availability and your interests, there are six different trails that you can enjoy in this area. Although only three of them are easily accessible form the city and require only one day to do. The most visited is Laguna Seca as it is only an easy 1 hour walk and a two hour car ride from the city. The Laguna de Siecha and Laguna de Buitrago trails are a bit more demanding where you have to walk up to three hours. Nonetheless be confident that in all trails you will experience the uniqueness and beauty of this ecosystem in the clouds and the contact with the indigenous people who believed some of the lagoons that you may find at the end of the trails to be sacred places.
