NATURE RESERVE “PARQUE ARVÍ” & CERRO “PAN DE AZUCAR”
Antioquia, Colombia
Duration: 9 hours, including 5 hours hiking
This hiking experience combines the newest urbanistic projects of Medellín, by far the most impressive viewpoints on the city and a hike into Andean mountain landscapes. Start in Medellín’s Comuna 8 and check out the newest cable car into the poor neighborhoods on the hillside. Walk up the hill to the peak of “Pan de Azucar” and enjoy the most impressive viewpoint Medellín has to offer. Hike further up into the green forest of the nature reserve “Parque Arví” passing by the Guarne lake in the hills. “The green lung of Medellín”, as local people call the ambitious project of the Arvi reserve, is just outside of Medellín and covers 16,000 hectares of Andean forest and wetlands. The countryside appeal of the lush green fauna is not only spectacular to experience, it represents also both an important watershed for the area and an important biological nature reserve for plants and animals native to the area.
